Drinking and driving enforcement over the weekend

2020-01-28 09:47 PST

On January 20, 2020 at approximately 12:45 AM Whistler RCMP received a report from a concerned driver who was observing a black Jeep driving southbound on Highway 99 at Village Gate. The vehicle was reported to be swerving into oncoming traffic almost causing collisions. Whistler RCMP located the vehicle in question at a red light at the intersection of Lake Placid Road and Highway 99. The vehicle was pulled over and the driver exited the vehicle, unfortunately without placing the vehicle in park causing the Jeep to roll backwards. Luckily the vehicle was placed in park before striking anything. The driver, a 32 year old female from Tofino, BC failed a roadside breath test and was issued a 90 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) and her vehicle was impounded.

Over the course of this weekend from Friday January 24 to Monday morning January 27, 2020 the Whistler RCMP conducted several check-stops to determine driver sobriety. Unfortunately, drivers do not seem to be getting the message not to drink and drive. Whistler RCMP handed out seven 90 Day Immediate Roadside Prohibitions (IRP), two 3 Day IRP’s and 2- 24 hour suspensions.

Whistler RCMP want to remind the public that traffic safety continues to be a detachment priority and the public can expect continued enforcement with zero tolerance for impaired drivers.
