Yield to Pedestrians at Marked Crosswalks.

White Rock RCMP are reminding motorists that pedestrians do have the right of way at crosswalks, after receiving complaints from the general public. We are seeing new crosswalks in White Rock due to construction and roadwork being completed. It is imperative that drivers stop for pedestrians at all marked crosswalks. We want everyone to get to their destination safely, whether on foot or by motor vehicle.  Says Constable Chantal Sears.

White Rock RCMP members will be out assisting with road safety and will be stopping drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians.

Pedestrians are reminded to wear visible reflective clothing whenever possible, and to use marked crosswalks when crossing.

Drive Smart BC has the following advice If we approach the act of driving and walking with an attitude of sharing the road together chances are that we will avoid difficulties. It is when we become selfish and insist on being first that the problems begin, particularly for the pedestrian as they are the ones with the most to lose regardless of whether they are right or wrong

Failing to yield to a pedestrian is a $167 fine with 3 points.
